Scoping - what's it all about?

During my 3 month sabbatical from the daily work of Methodist ministry I'm exploring the ways in which technology can be used in the life of the Church community. Amongst other issues, some of which I've explored previously, I'm going to focus on ways in which we can use technology as a tool for effective communication, collaborative working and sharing of information.

Blogging to keep a journal of my thinking and work through this period, is an attempt to practice what I'm hoping to preach (not from the pulpit though!).

Some areas for exploration that have already occurred to me include: (I think some business approaches would call this 'scoping' the project)
  1. Theological reflection - unpacking why this is relevant to ministry
  2. Consideration of how that theology could be applied
  3. Research - polling a group of practitioners to survey: what appraches are currently employed; what would be desirable; how such approaches could be implemented
  4. Analysis of currently available approaches to achieve given aims
  5. Explore possibility of a group continuing to work on the area of ICT as tool for ministry/Church
  6. Conclusion - consider making a proposal to take this work forward
